Visa Info & Requirements

1. Visa Types & Requirements


Tourist Visa

Purpose: Short-term leisure or holiday visits.


Required Documentation:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay with at least two blank pages.
  • Visa Application Form: Completed and signed.
  • Photographs: Two recent passport-sized photographs (white background).
  • Proof of Accommodation: Hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from a host in Malaysia.
  • Return/Onward Ticket: Proof of return flight or onward travel.
  • Financial Proof: Recent bank statements (3–6 months) showing sufficient funds to cover your stay.
  • Visa Fee Payment Receipt: Amount varies based on nationality and processing method.


Business Visa

Purpose: Business meetings, conferences, or investment-related activities.


Required Documentation:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months beyond your stay.
  • Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  • Photographs: Two passport-sized photographs (white background).
  • Letter of Invitation: From the Malaysian company or organization detailing the purpose and duration of the visit.
  • Proof of Employment: Letter from your employer in your home country verifying your position and purpose of travel.
  • Company Registration Documents: From the inviting organization in Malaysia.
  • Proof of Accommodation: Hotel reservation or similar.
  • Return/Onward Ticket: Evidence of your planned departure.
  • Financial Proof: Bank statements or a letter of sponsorship from your employer.
  • Visa Fee Payment Receipt.


Student Visa

Purpose: Long-term study in Malaysian educational institutions.


Required Documentation:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months beyond your stay.
  • Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  • Offer Letter: From a recognized Malaysian educational institution.
  • Proof of Payment: Evidence of payment for tuition fees.
  • Photographs: Passport-sized photos (as specified by the institution).
  • Proof of Financial Stability: Bank statements, sponsorship letter, or scholarship documentation.
  • Medical Report: Health examination certificate.
  • Immigration Approval Letter: From the Malaysian Immigration Department (facilitated by the institution).
  • Proof of Accommodation: Confirmation from the institution or other lodging arrangements.


Work Visa (Employment Pass)

Purpose: Long-term employment in Malaysia.


Required Documentation:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months beyond your stay.
  • Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  • Offer Letter/Employment Contract: From a Malaysian employer.
  • Company Documents: Company registration and profile documents from the employer.
  • Work Permit Approval: Issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
  • Photographs: Passport-sized photos (as per requirements).
  • Qualifications and Certifications: Educational and professional documents attested as required.
  • Medical Report: Health certificate.
  • Proof of Financial Stability: May be requested to ensure self-sufficiency during the stay.
  • Visa Fee Payment Receipt.


Dependent Visa

Purpose: For family members of individuals with long-term visas (e.g., work or student visas).


Required Documentation:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months.
  • Visa Application Form: Fully completed and signed.
  • Photographs: Passport-sized photos.
  • Proof of Relationship: Marriage certificate for spouses, birth certificates for children (attested as required).
  • Primary Visa Holder’s Documents: Copy of the primary visa holder’s passport, visa, and work/student documents.
  • Proof of Accommodation: Rental agreements or housing confirmation.
  • Financial Proof: Bank statements showing sufficient funds to support dependents.


E-Visa

Purpose: Short-term visits (tourism or business).


Required Documentation:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months.
  • Digital Photograph: As specified in the e-Visa portal.
  • Return Ticket: Proof of departure.
  • Accommodation Proof: Hotel bookings or an invitation letter.
  • Financial Evidence: Bank statements or a sponsor’s letter.
  • Visa Fee Payment: Online payment receipt.
  • Travel Itinerary: Detailed plans for your visit.


Visa on Arrival (Not recommended for African passport holders)

Purpose: Short-term visits for eligible travellers arriving from specific countries.


Required Documentation:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months.
  • Return/Onward Ticket: Confirmed ticket within the allowable stay duration.
  • Accommodation Proof: Hotel booking confirmation.
  • Visa Fee Payment: Cash payment at the port of entry.
  • Supporting Visas: Valid visa from neighbouring countries (e.g., Thailand or Singapore), if applicable.

Important Considerations

  • Have confirmed hotel reservations or an invitation letter from a host in Malaysia.
  • Possess a return flight ticket or proof of onward travel.
  • Sufficient Funds: Carry evidence of adequate financial means to support yourself during your stay, such as recent bank statements.
  • Ensure you meet any health requirements, including vaccinations, and carry relevant certificates if necessary.
  • Ensure all your travel documents are complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Familiarise yourself with Malaysian laws and customs to avoid inadvertent violations.
  • Regularly consult official Malaysian government sources or contact the nearest Malaysian embassy or consulate for the latest information on visa requirements and travel advisories.
  • Do not overstay your visit. Staying past the validity of your Visa can lead to financial and legal consequences.
  • Malaysia has entry restrictions imposed on many countries with regards to how they can enter the country. Travelling through air is the safest option to ensure you aren’t turned away.
  • Travel with between $1000 to $2000 dollars cash incase of any unexpected issues during your trip.
